Coronavirus: Spain surpasses Italy in death toll

Spain's coronavirus death toll overtook that of China, rising to 3,434 after 738 people died over the past 24 hours, the government said.

Madrid: Spain has recorded 738 deaths due to Coronavirus over the past 24 hours, surpassing China in the total death toll, making the country now second to only Italy.

According to official statistics, Covid 19 has shown no sign of slowing down as the caseload reached 47,610 as of Wednesday morning.

Of the total number of confirmed cases, 3166 are currently in ICUs while some 5367 have been cured.

The madrid region continues to be the hardest-hit with 14,597 cases, followed by Catalonia with 9,937 cases and the Basque Country with 3,271.
