Bengaluru: The Karnataka Police called in the chief of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), JP Nadda, and the head of the party's IT cell, Amit Malviya on May 8 in connection to a post on X that denigrated the Muslim community. The BJP officials have been directed to appear at the Bengaluru High Grounds police station within seven days of receiving the notice.
According to the police notice, on May 5, someone by the name of Ramesh Babu complained about a video that was put on X at the High Grounds police station. Additionally, the notification stated that the video was meant to provoke "hatred, enmity, and ill-will” against Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) members. The report also stated that an investigation is under progress and that a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered, the News Minute reported.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) asked that X take down the video that the BJP leaders were summoned over on Tuesday, May 7. The animated video in question implied that by giving Muslims excess funding, Congress would starve members of the SC, ST, and Other Backward Classes (OBC).
The animated video features a nest with three eggs named "SC," "ST," and "OBC," to which a larger egg labelled "Muslims" was added by a caricature of Rahul Gandhi. When the eggs hatch, the bird from the "Muslim" egg is bigger than the other three, has a menacing appearance, and is shown with a beard and a skull cap. The larger bird is then seen being fed "funds" by Rahul Gandhi, while the rest are allowed to starve. The bird receiving food eventually gets bigger and starts eradicating the others. A caricature of the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi saves the other birds in the meantime.
