INDIA bloc 'brain dead'; will meet 'natural death' soon: BJP mocks

New Delhi: Mocking the INDIA bloc, the BJP on Tuesday said that the "unnatural alliance" is "brain dead" and will meet its "natural death" soon, PTI reported.

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi said it is in the nature of the Congress to pick fights with other parties, comments which came in the wake of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) ruling out any alliance with the main opposition party and the Janata Dal (United) dumping the bloc for the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

"We always maintained that this alliance was only for photo-shoot. It was an unnatural alliance. It is now brain dead and is bound to meet its natural death soon," he told reporters.

The relations between Congress and TMC have been put under strain in recent days. When TMC decided to contest independently in West Bengal for the Lok Sabha polls, the party stated that the disagreement mainly stemmed from seat sharing as proposed by them and Congress chief in the state, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, is turning the tie between the two parties sour.

Nitish Kumar had resigned as the chief minister on Sunday, saying "things were not working well" for him in the 'Mahagathbandhan' and in the opposition bloc INDIA, and staked claim to form a new government with the BJP, which he had dumped less than 18 months ago.

The development -- BJP-JD-U alliance -- came just ahead of the general elections, which, according to the political analysts, is expected to give the saffron party an edge in putting up a "strong performance" in the Lok Sabha seats in Bihar. Kumar created a record by becoming CM of Bihar for the ninth time.

The Congress, the biggest party in the INDIA bloc, has been at the receiving end of jibes from some different regional parties in the alliance.
