Mamata Banerjee hospitalised after 'severe injury': TMC

New Delhi: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was admitted to the SSKM hospital for treatment after suffering a serious injury, according to a statement released by the Trinamool Congress on Thursday.

Photos of the West Bengal chief minister with blood on her face and a large cut on her forehead were posted by the All India Trinamool Congress. After returning from an event in Ballygunge, South Kolkata, Mamata Banerjee suffered a fall inside her Kalighat residence, according to her brother Kartik Banerjee, who spoke with a Bengali television channel.

On X, formerly known as Twitter, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed worry for Mamata Banerjee's well-being and wished her a speedy recovery, TOI reported.

Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu MK Stalin also conveyed shock and best wishes for a quick recovery.

"Shocked and deeply concerned about the road accident involving Hon'ble Chief Minister of West Bengal @MamataOfficial didi. My thoughts are with her during this difficult time, and I'm wishing her a speedy recovery," Stalin said in a post on X.

PTI sources state that Mamata was admitted to the hospital by TMC national general secretary and her nephew, Abhishek Banerjee.

Sukanta Majumdar, the president of the state BJP, also wished her a quick recovery.

"Wishing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee a speedy recovery. Our prayers are with her for a quick return to good health," West Bengal BJP president Sukanta Majumdar said in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The chief minister was seen being wheeled to the hospital's Neurosciences Department while wearing a bandage over her forehead in a video.

Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, too expressed dismay at the incident and wished her a quick recovery.

"Shocked to see this. Pray for ur speedy recovery Didi. God bless u," Arvind Kejriwal said on X.

After inquiring about the chief minister's health, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar expressed worry and wished for a quick recovery.
