Setback to ED: Supreme Court grants interim bail to Kejriwal

New Delhi: Serving setback to the Enforcement Directorate (ED), the Supreme Court granted interim bail to Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party national convenor Arvind Kejriwal till June 1 in the money laundering case stemming from the Delhi excise policy case, news agencies reported.

However, the top court dismissed Kejriwal’s plea to extend the bail till the end of the counting of votes and days of formation of a new government. It directed the CM to surrender on June 2.  But the court said pleas to extend relief beyond that date would be heard next week

It was on March 21 that the CM was arrested by the ED in a case of money laundering. The case was linked to alleged irregularities in the scrapped Delhi excise policy 2021-22

The SC bench had hinted at granting him interim bail on Tuesday so that he could attend the election campaigns for the ongoing Lok Sabha polls The court had also verbally expressed the view that Kejriwal was not a habitual offender.  But it had also conditioned that if interim bail were granted, he would not be allowed to perform official duties as a CM.
