Meta's Facebook, Instagram face down time

The social media platforms owned by Meta, Facebook and Instagram had a global outage on Tuesday night around 9 pm, The Indian Express reported, citing the Down Detector. It is a website that tracks real-time instances of outages.

According to the tracker, Facebook went down around 8:57 pm on the day. The tracker showed 15,381 reports, TIE reports.

Users flagged that they were automatically logged out from their accounts on both Facebook and Instagram. They were not able to log back in, and the issue happened to both the website and the app.

In the US, several users reported issues, and they reset their passwords and used two factory security logins, but it was in vain. TIE states they tried to log in to one of their own accounts with the two-factory login but are yet to receive the security code via mail.

TIE reported that the outage impacted various businesses and publishers who relied on the two platforms.

Ever since the platform went down, users have been visiting other social media sites, such as X, to find the reason behind the outage. #FacebookDown hashtag is trending in X with thousands of users sharing memes and all trolling the outage.
