Banks can use Whatsapp to issue pension slips: Centre

In an effort to ease the lives of pensioners, the Centre, in an official order today, informed banks they could use social media apps such as WhatsApp, besides SMS and email, to issue pension slips to pensioners after crediting their accounts.

"Banks may also use social media apps WhatsApp etc in addition to sms and email," the order issued by the Department of Pension and Pensioners' Welfare read. In the meeting held last month with the Central Pension Processing Centres (CPPCs) of pension-disbursing banks, the issue of providing the break-up of the monthly pension was discussed and banks welcomed the idea, it added. The pension slip must provide the complete detail of the monthly pension paid together with the break-up of the amount credited and any tax deductions.

"Accordingly, all pension disbursing banks should issue pension slip to pensioners after credit of pension on their registered mobile numbers through sms and email (wherever available) also," the recent order noted.
