Sridhar Ramaswamy, an Indian-origin executive, has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer and a member of the Board of Directors at Snowflake, a US-based data cloud company. Ramaswamy, who previously served as the Senior Vice President of AI at Snowflake, succeeds Frank Slootman, who is retiring but will remain as the Chairman of the Board.

Ramaswamy expressed his gratitude for the foundation laid by Slootman and the team over the past 12 years, establishing Snowflake as a leading cloud data platform. He emphasized his commitment to driving innovation and leveraging AI to deliver significant business value for customers and partners.

Since joining Snowflake in May 2023 following the company's acquisition of Neeva, an AI-powered search engine, Ramaswamy has been instrumental in shaping Snowflake's AI strategy. He led the launch of Snowflake Cortex, a fully managed service simplifying AI adoption for users to drive business value efficiently.

Slootman praised Ramaswamy's leadership qualities and vision, expressing confidence in his ability to steer Snowflake through its next phase of growth, particularly in the fields of AI and machine learning.

Before his tenure at Snowflake, Ramaswamy co-founded Neeva in 2019. He previously held significant roles at Google, where he led various advertising products and played a crucial role in the expansion of Google's advertising business.

Ramaswamy also has a background in research, with positions at Bell Labs, Lucent Technologies, and Bell Communications Research (Bellcore). Additionally, he served as a Venture Partner at Greylock Partners and currently sits on the board of trustees at Brown University.
