ANI.

New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested IAS officer and Jharkhand Mines Secretary Pooja Singhal on Wednesday. The development occurred after the second day of questioning her on a case of Prevention of Money Laundering related to the embezzlement of MNREGS funds, IANS reported.

She was put to severe interrogation for nine hours on Tuesday, and she joined for further questioning on Wednesday. After gathering the required evidence, EC made the arrest, IANS reports.

According to ED sources, the probe agency will scrutinize Singhal's monetary transactions for the last three years for any suspicious entry or money trail. It is scanning the details of her properties at present, sources said.

According to one source, four cars owned by Singhal's husband Abhishek Jha's CA have been seized, but some else have paid for cars. CA Suman Kumar, along with Abhishek Jha, was arrested on Saturday.

ED had seized Rs 19 crore in cash through raids, and it is going to trace the source of it, though it is said that the money belongs to Singhal.

Suman Kumar, who came onto ED's radar while the investigation was in progress, was sent to ED custody for five days after the arrest.

ED had conducted raids at more than 18 locations, including Ranchi, Chandigarh, Mumbai, Kolkata, Muzaffarpur, Saharsa, and in several parts of NCR, including Faridabad, Gurugram and Noida, early on Friday. ED had to seek help from bank officials and a currency counting machine to estimate the seized amount from the locations, IANS reports.
