Stupidity combined with arrogance and ignorance - US President Donald Trump’s maiden speech at the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday can only be described like that.

From a lack of knowledge about history to turning a blind eye towards the deeds of America, his rant at the global ‘peace’ platform was a ridiculous mishmash of disparities. He mocked the North Korean dictator Kim Jung Un who holds similar views to that of Trump and threatened to ‘totally destroy’ North Korea if the US finds itself ‘forced to defend itself or its allies’. Given the increase in the number of buffoons among the world leaders, Trump’s first address to the UN General Assembly is a perfect example of how the United Nations assembly turns into a hub of warmongering. It’s been quite some time since the UN has turned into a toy in the hands of some selfish madmen.

‘Rogue regimes represented in this body not only support terrorists but threaten other nations and their own people with the most destructive weapons known to humanity ‘, Trump had said during his speech. Although his statements might be aimed at Iran and other nations, every word of his befit the US itself. It doesn’t suit Iran that has a representation in the UN or North Korea that doesn’t have one. According to Paul Craig Roberts, the Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Economic Policy in the US government, international opinion polls have confirmation the fact. Trump is at present, frantically making attempts to sabotage the nuclear deal that will lead to US-Iran conflict just like Israel wanted. Even while the International Atomic Energy Agency constantly testifies that Iran has been strictly following each and every guideline in the nuclear agreement, Trump is making attempts to repeal the deal. Many nations have signed the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons whereas the US, Israel, Britain and France have all boycotted the signing ceremony.

Does Trump who bragged about the sovereignty of the countries, even understand the significance of the term? He deployed the word 21 times in his address. But his country destroyed the independent, sovereign countries violating all international laws in the last few decades. Countries such as Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya and Yemen still continue to the bear the brunt of US intervention. US turned 241 years old this year. It was engaged in battle with other nations for almost 220 years. Most of the interventions took place citing fake reasons. Why does a nation that brags about sovereignty retain over 900 military bases in different countries? When Trump urged the nations to respect the interests of their own people and the rights of every other sovereign nation, one wonder when the US administration respected the freedom and sovereignty of other countries. Trump could go back to the pages of history in order to comprehend North Korea’s aversion towards the US. General Douglas MacArthur, a US military chief had presented before the Congress, the real picture of massive destruction unleashed by the US in Korea, in 1951. The war destroyed Korea that was home to two crore people. ‘I have never seen such devastation. I have seen as much blood and disaster as any living man and it just curdled my stomach’, he said.

Even today North Korea has not posed any threat to the sovereignty of the US. It’s the opposite that is seen. No matter how senseless Kim Jung Un is, he never said that he would destroy America, but only that the country would retaliate in defence if needed. The United Nations is an organization formed by the world nations to recover from the devastation caused by several callous leaders in the peak of warmongering during the last century and to restore peace. People like Trump today blurt out rants at the UN. Humiliate the Human Rights Commission. Trump sees the UN as an organization under the control of the US just like NATO. He couldn’t be blamed for believing so. There are ‘obedient servants’ around him who agree with him. The world witnessed a senseless act from the President when he expressed apprehensions over ‘unthinkable loss of human life’ and promised ‘total destruction’ in the next line. This fraudulence is much more perilous than weapons.
