New York: Diego Costa scored four goals as Atletico Madrid embarrassed La Liga rivals Real Madrid 7-3 Friday in a pre-season friendly at MetLife Stadium.

Costa had a hat-trick by halftime and added one more goal before he was sent off in the 63rd, when both teams were reduced to 10 men after a testy shoving match.

Cairo: Algeria coach Djamel Belmadi lauded his side's "incredible" Africa Cup of Nations triumph as Baghdad Bounedjah's early goal earned a 1-0 victory over Senegal in the final.

Barcelona: Barcelona have announced that they have signed French forward Antoine Griezmann on a five-season contract.

The announcement came after the player's international representatives paid his 120-million-euro buyout clause included in his contract with Atletico Madrid at the LaLiga offices, reports Efe news.

"FC Barcelona has paid the 120 million euro buyout clause to release Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid," the Catalan club said in a statement on its website on Friday.

Washington: President Donald Trump needs to do better in caring for every single American, the triumphant US women's soccer captain Megan Rapinoe has said, as she hit back at him after he lectured her to win the World Cup title before she talked.

The 34-year-old forward has skyrocketed to national prominence for leading her team's win the World Cup on Sunday and also championing the lawsuit filed by 28 US Women's National Team players demanding pay equal to the men's squad.


Chennai: Former India goalkeeper A U Celestine died here after a brief illness, his family said.

He was 73 and is survived by his wife and son.

Celestine passed away at a hospital here late Monday night where he was undergoing treatment.

He had represented India in the Merdeka Cup in Malaysia in 1969.

The tall Celestine represented Tamil Nadu and was considered one of the state's top custodians.
