Abhimanyu murder: Police gropes in dark as real culprits still on run

Kochi: Though 10 days have passed after Maharajas College student Abhimanyu was killed, police is still groping in the dark, failing to catch the real culprits involved in the incident.

Though seven have been arrested connected with the murder, none of them was directly involved in the gang that committed the crime. The Police claim having obtained significant clues about the criminal gang and those who called them into the campus and say they are still at large. Police has not ruled out the possibility of the culprits having escaped to foreign countries.

Saji from Kottayam, Farooq Amani of Pathanamthitta, Riyas Hussain of Palluruthi, Saifuddin of Nettur, Anas, Navas-both from Mattanchery, Jifrin of Panayipilli were arrested in connection with the murder. They were arrested as it became evident they helped the criminals. Tower location of their mobile phones and calls were traced with the help of cyber cell.

However, the investigation team could not nab the real culprits involved in the murder. Police assumes that a 15-member team comprising workers of both Campus Front and SDPI were involved in the murder. Mohammed, a college student, is assumed to be main accused. Police says that Mohammed and others are absconding.

Investigation has been extended to neighbouring states too. Police have informed that a lookout notice will be issued and Interpol’s assistance will be sought considering the possibility of criminals escaping to foreign countries. However, sluggishness is alleged in the police actions.

Police's indifference is alleged as the reason that made it easy for the culprits to escape the city soon after the murder. The same attitude is alleged to help the culprits escape the country. It is learnt that clear evidence could not be obtained even after examining CCTV records.
