Bishop's arrest likely to be registered; SP to meet mediamen to announce

Tripunithura:  The arrest of Bishop Franco Mulakkal, who was in charge of Jalandhar diocese until relieved the other day,  is likely to be registered today.  On being arrested,  he is to be  produced before the court in Vaikkom.

In the case against him for sexual harassment of a nun,  Franco Mulakkal has been under interrogation at Tripunithura since Wednesday.  The SP in charge of the questioning is set to meet mediapersons to inform the arrest officially.

There are reports that the decision to arrest the bishop has been conveyed to Punjab police and the lawyer there.  Following such reports,  the bishop's lawyers are said to have initiated moves to obtain interim bail for him.

In the meantime,  the Circle Inspector of Vakathanam Manoj Kumar  visited the convent in Kuruvilangad around 9.50 on Friday morning and gathered more particulars from the nun.  The meeting was for to collating the contradictions in the statements and the bishop's explanation for them.

Also,  the strike by nuns demanding the bishop's arrest has reached its 13th day.  Officials of 'Save Our Sisters' and supporters of the strike together have been making an impressive display of public sympathy for the strike.
