Thiruvananthapuram: The LDF led Opposition Friday staged a walkout in the assembly protesting against the dismissal of an adjournment motion seeking discussion on the alleged police assault on SFI activists in a march to the Kannur university.
E P Jayarajan MLA moved the motion saying that the police action on students was brutal and unwanted. But the speaker refused to admit the motion.
A march taken out by the SFI to the Kannur University headquarters at Mangattuparamba in Kannur turned violent on Thursday, forcing the police to use grenades and tear gas.
Taliparamba DySP K Sudarsan and three other cops and several SFI activists suffered injuries in the stone-pelting and violence that followed the march. Trouble started when a group of SFI activists allegedly tried to enter the university campus breaking the police cordon after the formal inauguration of the march.
The march was taken out demanding to withdraw the hike in fee for various courses under the university.
The police had arrested about 40 students in connection with the violence.
