Kottayam: Surendran, father of Kiliroor case victim Shari, Monday lashed out at V S Achuthanandan alleging that he had tried to sabotage the investigation in the Kiliroor case.

Speaking to reporters here, Surendran said Achuthanandan did nothing to bring justice to his daughter.

"We had a lot of hope when Achuthanandan was chief minister. He had promised to put behind bars those who had exploited our daughter," he said.

This case in media circles is known as the Kiliroor sex case; the victim was a teenager at the time of the sexual abuse. She died in 2004, following complications that followed the delivery of a baby girl.

In 2004, as Leader of the Opposition, Achuthanandan had publicly said that there was a VIP involved in the case; he claimed that if elected to power, he would arrest the culprit.

"He said he would 24 hours after assuming office as chief minister, but did nothing. Achuthanandan never showed, in this case, the sincerity which he showed in the Suryanelli sex case," Surendran said.

Surendran said he was not in favour of a Central Bureau of Investigation probe, as the agency appeared to be "out to save the main culprits".

"I wish for a probe by Kerala Police, and expect that they will come out with the truth," Surendran said.

In February, a CBI court in the capital city found five people guilty in this case. Surendran reacted by saying that he would approach the Kerala High Court, as the CBI only identified the ordinary people involved, while letting the more influential people off scot-free.
