Thiruvananthapuram: Labour & Rehabilitation Minister Shibu Baby John’s meeting with Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi has kicked up a political storm in the State.

Shibu met Narendra Modi in Ahmedabad on Thursday. He also held talks with Gujarat Labour minister Saurabh Patel. Modi briefed John about Gujarat’s novel Skill Development Centres and the proposed Skill Development University while John briefed Modi about Kerala’s developed tourism industry. They also discussed about the state of construction industry in respective states.

Shibu said that he met Modi and other officials to learn about the development style of the State of Gujarat. He also gifted an Aranmula mirror to Modi.

Shibu said Kerala and Gujarat share a lot of similarities in the matter of development. He also said that he wishes to start a model of Gujarat Knowledge City in Kerala.

However, the timing of the meeting didn’t go down well with many in the United Democratic Front as certain leaders openly came out against the move on Saturday prompting the minster denounce the meet himself. Union Minister Vayalar Ravi Saturday said that Kerala had nothing to learn from Gujarat.

Shibu, who earlier said that he met the Chief Minister of Gujarat, not any BJP leader, later said that Gujarat model of development was not suitable for Kerala.
