Alappuzha: UDF partner Janathipathiya Samrakshana Samithy (JSS) led by KR Gowriyamma on Saturday sent out signals that it was not interested in remaining in the Congress-led ruling coalition as its sentiments had not been respected.
Though Gowriyamma made her stand clear at the party's state committee meeting here, a section of the leadership was learnt to be opposed to abruptly snapping ties with the UDF and moving to the Left camp.
According to JSS sources, Gowriyamma and her close supporters held that there was no point in continuing in the UDF as neither the Congress nor any other partner in the coalition bothered to address some of the issues raised by the party recently.
The party had demanded action against Government Chief Whip P C George, who belongs to Kerala Congress (M), for making derogatory comments against Gowriyamma. However, former JSS MLA KK Shaju came out strongly against quitting the ruling front and moving to the LDF, the sources said.
Once a firebrand Communist who held key portfolios in most Left governments right from 1957, nonagenarian leader Gowriyamma left the CPM in the 1990s following sharp differences with the party's state leadership.
