Thiruvananthapuram: The State government has ordered a vigilance inquiry against former Industries Minister Elamaram Kareem for his alleged corrupt practices in Kerala state textile corporation.
The Finance Department had recommended a vigilance probe against former Industries Minister Elamaram Kareem.
During the tenure of the previous LDF government, three mills were started under the state textile corporation - spinning mill at Uduma, hightech weaving mill at Pinarayi and spinning and weaving mill at Komalapuram.
The finance department has detected misappropriation of Rs 23 crore in equipment purchase. Equipments were purchased at a very high price and this alone caused Rs 14.5-crore loss to the state exchequer.
