PB won’t discuss TP murder probe report: Karat

New Delhi: CPI-M general secretary Prakash Karat Friday said that the Politburo will not discuss the party probe report of the murder of RMP leader T P Chandrasekharan.

“The PB won’t discuss the probe report of Chandrasekharan murder,” Karat told the reporters ahead of the Politburo meet here. He said the PB will take a final call on whether to discuss the resolution against veteran leader V S Achuthanadan.

The CPI-M politburo and central committee meetings are scheduled to be held from May 10 to 12.

PB member Sitaram Yechury had on Thursday said that the meet will discuss the murder probe report. He had said that the recommendation of the party state leadership to remove Achuthanandan from the post of Opposition leader was not in the agenda of the meet. “However we will discuss it if any member raises the issue in the meet,” Yechury said.

The state committee which has predominance of the official faction led by state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan has been baying for the blood of VS for his alleged anti-Pinarayi stand.

The P Karunakaran Commission report calling for action against him for his alleged breach of party discipline, which was adopted by the state committee, has recommended to the central committee to remove VS from the post of Opposition Leader. Irked by the report and recommendation, VS has been keeping away from the state committee and state secretariat meetings for the last few months. As a result of this, the party state unit and leadership were systematically denying all opportunities to the 90-year-old leader to speak out his position. Feeder and frontal organisations of the party have also been told not to invite him to attend their functions citing that VS was not attending state committee and secretariat meetings.

Asked whether he would be removed from the post of the Opposition Leader, VS told media persons here on Thursday that it would be known when he reached New Delhi. The central committee members and PB members from the state are tight-lipped on the issue and offered no comments. Party general secretary Prakash Karat also has been silent on the issue.
