Kochi: Kerala High Court Wednesday stayed for two months the Vigilance enquiry ordered by Kerala State Commission for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes against denial of seats to SC/ST candidates for MBBS, BDS and other seats in merit list and SC/ST merit reservation list.
Justice P R Ramachandra Menon stayed the commission's order while admitting a petition by the Entrance commissioner challenging the commission's order of May 13 this year.
The commission had directed Vigilance and Anti-corruption bureau to ascertain the loss sustained to SC/ST community and also to verify the beneficiaries in these cases in the general merit list.
Challenging this order, the Entrance Commissioner approached the High Court complaining that the commission had no jurisdiction and cannot act as a court. It had transcribed its limits and encroached into the powers conferred on other authorities, he contended.
