Oommen Chandy, Chennithala hold talks

Thiruvananthapuram: In a bid to end the impasse that has been crippling the United Democratic Front for several days, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala held talks here on Tuesday.

The two stalwarts of Congress party met in the presence of UDF Convenor P P Thankachan here at the KPCC headquarters after a program held to honour the Congress leaders killed in the Maoist attack in Chhattisgarh.

The meeting is said to be followed by a direction from the High Command. The issue is likely to be resolved before the next UDF meeting scheduled on May 30.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s political secretary Ahmed Patel and AICC general secretary in charge of Kerala, Madhusudhan Mistry had called up the warring leaders for the second consecutive day on Saturday to settle the deadlock. They spoke to Union defence minister A K Antony too who had been touring the state since the last two days. The Congress high-command had stepped in on Friday to resolve the crisis that had gripped the party.
