New Delhi: A Delhi court Tuesday remanded suspended cricketer S. Sreesanth in judicial custody till June 4 and sent him to Tihar jail rejecting police’s plea for his custody for two more days.

Police have said that Sreesanth is lodged in jail number one of the Tihar jail. As per reports, his jail-mate is a murder accused.

Delhi Police had sought extension of Sreesanth’s police custody on the ground that immediately after his arrest in Mumbai, co-accused Jiju Janaradhan had offered one of their common friends Abhishek Shukla `2 lakh to clean the cricketer’s hotel room.

Chief metropolitan magistrate Lokesh Kumar Sharma turned down the plea of Delhi Police's Special Cell for the custody of Sreesanth, saying he cannot be held liable for what has happened at his back.

Besides Sreesanth, the court has also sent Ajit Chandila, bookies Ashwani Aggarwal and Chandresh Patel to Tihar jail till June 4, after the police said that their custodial interrogation was complete. The court also denied bail to suspended cricketer Ankeet Chavan saying social stigma cannot be a ground to give him the relief. The plea for bail was sought on ground that his marriage is fixed for June 2.
