Kochi: Tushar Vellapally, son of SNDP general secretary Vellapally Natesan, has resigned as the member of Guruvayur Devaswom Board.
Talking to the press after announcing his resignation on Wednesday, Tushar said that the move was to strengthen the unity of the majority community.
He rebuffed that that the resignation was in protest of the remarks of Alappuzha DCC president A A Shukoor. The resignation letter has also been forwarded to the chief minister and Devaswom minister V S Shivakumar.
His resignation is a turn-away from the SNDP Yogam’s decision to not quit the posts granted by the UDF government until the KPCC made its position clear on the highly critical resolution passed by the Alappuzha DCC.
Alappuzha DCC had passed a resolution against SNDP president Vellapally Nateshan protesting his remarks against KPCC president Ramesh Chennithalala. The resolution called for withdrawal of remarks against Congress leaders.
In protest of the resolution, all the nine Yogam unions in the district have decided to jointly send 9,000 protest letters to Congress president Sonia Gandhi. It has also decided to file a defamation case against DCC president Shukoor.
