Palakkad: Janakeeya Vikasana Samithy leader M.R. Murali said he would quit as chairman of Shoranur municipality after finalising the annual plan.
Murali also made it clear that he would send the resignation by Monday or Tuesday.
The Congress had earlier withdrawn its support to Murali as he did not honour a written agreement that had been reached between the JVS and the Congress to share the chairmanship. Though the chairmanship should have been handed over on April 17, 2013, Mr. Murali had refused to offer the post to the Congress.
Opposition leader V.S Achuthanandan and CPI-M State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan had earlier welcomed the return of Murali to CPI-M.
