Thiruvananthapuram: A general consultancy agreement for setting up proposed monorail projects in Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode was signed here on Wednesday.
Kerala Mono Rail Corporation (KMRC) and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) signed the contract for the combined Rs 5,581-crore projects in Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode. The agreement was signed at the State Assembly complex here in the presence of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy; his Cabinet colleagues; Speaker G. Karthikeyan; and E. Sreedharan, principal advisor to Delhi Metro.
“Kerala Mono Rail Corporation (KMRC) and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) have signed the contract regarding the proposed monorail projects in Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode. Both projects would be completed in a time bound manner,” said Chief Minister Oommen Chandy in a post on a social networking site.
Kerala Monorail Corporation is a special purpose vehicle set up by the State Government for implementing the monorail projects.
Delhi Metro will be responsible for design; preparation of bid document; short-listing and selection of contractors; supervision, and quality certification for the monorail projects.
The elevated mass rapid transport system will run to a length of 22.2 km from Technocity to Karamana in Thiruvananthapuram and 14.2-km from Government Medical College to Meenchantha in Kozhikode.
