Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Ommen Chandy has ordered a vigilance inquiry against former PRD Director A. Firoz, who was suspended on Wednesday for his alleged links with suspects in the solar panel fraud case.

The official was suspended based on findings in an interim report by the public relations secretary for involvement in the case where Sarita S Nair and Biju Radhakrishnan had duped a man of Rs 40 lakh after promising him help in obtaining a hefty bank loan.

Firoz was one of three accused in the case that was registered in 2009. A report on Feroz's involvement in the case was given to the government (general administration department) in November 2010 by then City Police Commissioner.

Minister K C Joseph had Monday said that the LDF government suppressed the file containing the report on Feroz and promoted him as Additional Director PRD Electronic Media Division.

After UDF government came to power, Feroz was promoted as Director PRD without knowing his background, Joseph said.
