Malappuram: A 22-year-old woman, Sujithra, has delivered conjoined twins at the Government General Hospital at Manjery in the district here on Friday.

The infants have their abdomen and pelvic regions joined together. According to doctors, this is a rare phenomenon which occurs once in lakh deliveries or so.

One of the infants is a girl while the genetic part of the other is sealed off. The babies are under paediatric observation at Kozhikode Medical College.

It was in 2005 a pair of Siamese twins was born in Kerala at Pariyaram Medical College but they died within a few days.
