Mumbai: The rupee Wednesday fell by 12 paise to 59.78 against the dollar in early trade on the Interbank Foreign Exchange market on increased demand for the US currency from importers.
A firm opening in the domestic equity market and easing dollar against other currencies in overseas markets, however, capped the fall, forex dealers said.
The rupee had closed two paise higher at 59.66 yesterday on some strength in local equities and dollar selling by exporters.
Meanwhile, the BSE benchmark Sensex rose further by 13.28 points, or 0.07 per cent, to 18,642.43 in early trade today.
