Kozhikode: Former minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader A C Shankugha Das (74) died at around 9.20pm at Kozhikode Medical College here on Thursday.

He had been undergoing treatment for cancer for over a year suffering from cancer.

Former state president of NCP, Shanmugha Das was the health minister in the ministry headed by E K Nayanar in 1996.

Born on 5th January 1939 as the son of Kunjiraman and A V Saradamma, Shanmugha Das began his political life actively participated in the students’ struggle for ‘Goa liberation’. He was elected to the assembly for the first time in the fourth Kerala Legislative Assembly from Balussery Constituency.

He is survived by his wife and two daughters.
