Kasargod: The Madakkal suspension bridge, built at a cost of Rs.4 crore, collapsed on Thursday. Two people on the bridge had a miraculous escape.

Revenue Minister Adoor Prakash sought an urgent report from the district administration. District Collector Muhammed Sagir said the Sub-Collector, Hosdurg; Tahsildar, Kanhangad; and village officer South Thrikkaripur had asked to hold a thorough inquiry into the circumstances that led to collapse.

The bridge, stated to be the longest in the State, was opened by Revenue Minister Adoor Prakash on April 29. The bridge connects the Valiyaparamba island to the mainland.
