Thiruvananthapuram: Congress leader Aryadan Muhammmed on Monday said that there was ideological difference between Congress and Muslim League.
“Congress and Muslim League are two different parties. They have separate ideologies. Even the color of the flag of both the parties is different,” said the veteran Congress leader while talking about the recent apprehension in UDF.
“The relation with the League is based on the manifesto. I don’t think the unanimity in the Front will be harmed in the wake of the recent controversy,” he said when asked about the reaction of Muslim League to the remarks of KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala.
While speaking at a function held in Kozhikode to commemorate freedom fighter and late Congress stalwart C K Govindan Nair, Chennithala had said Nair had warned that the League would become a liability to the Congress.
Miffed by the speech of Chennithala and couple of other Congress leaders including Aryadan at a meeting in Kozhikode on Saturday, top IUML leaders held an emergency meeting at party supremo Panakkad Hyderali Shihab Thangal's residence in Malappuram on Sunday.
They later came out with a strong statement that maintaining unity of the UDF was the responsibility of all partners and not that of the League alone. The party is expected to take an official decision on the matter at the party secretariat to be held on 4 July.
