Thiruvananthapuram: The draft agriculture development policy, submitted to the Chief Minister by the drafting committee chaired by K. Krishnankutty on Thursday, has proposed for introduction of Re.1 a kg as cess in order to assure farmers their right for sharing profit generated from the farm products.
The draft policy, which contains about 331 proposals, has also recommended that purchase of farmlands should be restricted to farmers and farming purposes only.
“A price fixation authority should be formed for fixing the price of the agricultural commodity to protect farmers from fall in prices,” it said.
Agriculture Minister K.P. Mohanan said the draft policy would be subjected to discussions at a public platform on August 16. “A final policy on it will be formed after wider discussions,” the Minister said.
