Hearing on Joppan’s bail plea adjourned

Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Friday adjourned to July 16 the hearing on a bail petition filed by Tenny Joppan, former personal assistant of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and an accused in a cheating case registered in connection with the solar scam.

His bail plea had earlier been dismissed by the Pathanamthitta Judicial First Class Magistrate. Joppan was arrested from Chengannur on a complaint lodged by N. Sreedharan Nair of Konni before the Konni police.

The police case against him is that he had gone out of the way to help Saritha clinch a solar energy solution contract with Sreedharan Nair in Konni in Pathanamthitta. Joppan had allegedly aided Saritha in the deal misusing his influence in the Chief Minister's Office.

Joppan was found to have made frequent phone calls to Saritha Nair, facing charge of cheating many people of huge sums by offering them solar energy solutions.

He has been charged with Section 420 of IPC (cheating) and Sec 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance) and listed as the third accused in the case, along with Biju Radhakrishnan and Saritha Nair.
