Fort Meade: A court-martial judge at Fort Meade is deciding whether to acquit an Army private of aiding the enemy for admittedly leaking reams of classified information.
Col. Denise Lind says she will rule on Thursday on defence motions made on behalf of Pfc. Bradley Manning.
The defence says prosecutors haven’t shown that Mr. Manning knew that the material he sent to the WikiLeaks website would be seen by al-Qaeda when it was posted online.
That’s the hurdle the government must clear to convict Mr. Manning of aiding the enemy. The offence carries a possible life sentence.
Col. Lind is also considering whether to acquit Mr. Manning of computer fraud.
