New Delhi: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will reach here as fresh discussions have begun to get away with the current deadlock in the State reshuffling the Cabinet which is expected to stimulate the UDF government from the ongoing solar scandal.
The Congress high command is considering inducting Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Ramesh Chennithala with Home portfolio while pondering to go for a total reshuffle of party Ministers in the Oommen Chandy Cabinet.
As per reports, the High Command is also considering name of veteran leader V M Sudheeran to the post of KPCC president.
The final way forward would be decided only after Chandy’s arrival. He will depart for Delhi Sunday evening.
If the party decides not to go for an overhaul, then minor changes would be made for Chennithala’s entry.
Chennithala had met AICC general secretary Mukul Wasnik, Ahmed Patel, political secretary to Sonia Gandhi, and Union Defence Minister A.K. Antony. While Chandy said in Kottayam that it was for Chennithala to decide whether he should join the Cabinet, Chennithala, turning the tables on the Chief Minister, said that it was for Chandy to take the appropriate decision.
Despite his reluctance, Chennithala has no alternative but to accede to the high command’s directive to join the Chandy team, it is pointed out.
It is said that Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan would have to make way for Chennithala and move over to the Speaker’s chair, while the incumbent Speaker G. Karthikeyan would take over the baton from Chennithala as KPCC president.
Chandy is expected to return on Monday evening itself.
