Chandy doesn’t need me, says Chennithala

Thiruvananthapuram: A day after the Congress high command put an end to the rumblings over Chennithala’s induction into the UDF Ministry, KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala has lashed out at Chief Minister Ommen Chandy saying that the former is not interested in him joining the Cabinet.

“Let Chandy run the government. He does not want me in the government. I don’t want to be in it with a set of conditions (of the coalition partners),” Chennithala said this in an interview to the New Indian Express.

For the past one week, Delhi had been the venue for hectic consultations between the top Congress leaders from Kerala and the party high command over the Cabinet reshuffle.

Speaking to reporters soon after meeting party president Sonia Gandhi in Delhi on Friday, Ramesh Chennithala had said that the party high command agreed to his request to continue as KPCC president.

"I am not joining the Cabinet of Oommen Chandy. Instead, my task at the moment has been designated to prepare the party to face the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls," Chennithala had said.

On Saturday, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy had said the Congress high command decided to maintain status quo in the party and government in the State and asked all to work unitedly to complete the regime's programme and prepare for next year's Lok Sabha polls.

"We are all governed by our high command and they have decided to maintain status quo in both government and the party here," said Chandy to reporters after returning from New Delhi.
