Disgraced Chinese leader Bos trial continues for second day

Beijing: Disgraced Chinese leader Bo Xilai's trial for corruption and abuse of power continued for the second day Friday at the Jinan Intermediate People's Court in China's eastern Shandong Province.

Bo, 64, was former secretary of the Chongqing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China and former member of the high-ranking CPC Central Committee Political Bureau.

Today's open trial started at 8:39 a.m, official media reported.

During yesterday's trial, prosecutors charged him with corruption to the tune of 26.79 million yuan (about USD 4.39 million) when he headed the city of Dalian.

He was also accused of abusing power when dealing with the murder case of British businessman Neil Heywood and associate Wang Lijun's defection in 2012.

Bo denied the charge of bribe-taking during the court hearing which was attended by more than 100 people, including Bo's five relatives and 19 journalists yesterday.

The court approved all applications by Bo, who was emotionally stable and physically healthy during the trial, to express his views.
