Beirut: At least 42 people were killed and 25 injured when two powerful explosions rocked Lebanon's northern port city of Tripoli Friday, the Lebanese Red Cross said.
The first explosion targeted al-Taqua mosque during the Friday prayers, Xinhua quoted the Lebanese National News Agency (NNA) as saying.
The second blast reportedly occurred outside al-Salam mosque, near the house of Prime Minister Najib Miqati.
Black clouds shrouded the city and heavy gunfire was heard, NNA reported.
The rise of violence in Lebanon has put people on pins and needles, especially after a car bombing last week that killed at least 17 people and injured 212 others in Beirut's southern suburb.
