Eight persons killed in bus-auto smash in Tanur

Tanur: Eight persons were killed when a speeding private bus collided with an autorickshaw at Olapeedika on Parappanangadi-Tanur Road near Mukkola on Friday.

The accident occurred at around 6.30 pm as the family was returning home at Kodakadu after attending a private function near Tanur. The deceased who were travelling in the auto include two women and four children.

The private bus was coming from Kozhikode and the autorickshaw from the opposite side. Eyewitnesses alleged that rash driving by the bus driver had led to the mishap.

Followed by the horrifying incident, an irate mob set ablaze the bus. The mob also pelted stones at vehicles of Fire and Rescue force. Police had to intervene to calm down the fuming mob. The traffic was also disrupted in the area for long hours.

The deceased have been identified as auto driver Kabeer, 26, Arshik, 22, Kabeer’s relatives Arifa, 26, and Sahira, 23, Arifa’s daughter Fathima Nazla, 8, Sahira’s daughters Thabsheer, 6; and Thabsheera, 3 and one-year-old son Ansar.

Meanwhile Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has declared immediate financial aid to the kin of the victims.
