Thiruvananthapuram: An indefinite strike called by the Coordination Committee of Poultry Farmers and Traders in the State protesting the government’s decision to increase the base price of chicken entered its fourth day Saturday.
The strike started on Wednesday night.
The state government had decided to increase base price of chicken from the existing R70 to R95 with effect from Thursday. The base price of chicks will also go up from R24 to R35.
The advance tax collected for bringing chicken and chicks from other states is 14.5% of the base price.
The base price was increased based on the recommendations of a committee of the commercial tax department as market price of chicken has been higher than the existing price.
