Court grants bail to former PRD director A Firoz

Kochi: The high court on Monday granted conditional bail to suspended PRD director A Firoz in a cheating case.

While hearing the plea, Justice S S Satheesachandran did not accept the government’s contention that the case filed against Firoz was connected with the solar scandal case.

Firoz is the third accused in a cheating case registered at Medical College police station in Thiruvananthapuram in 2009.

According to the complainant, builder Salim Kabeer, Firoz and Team Solar representatives Biju Radhakrishnan and Sairtha S Nair cheated him of Rs 40.2 lakh. The money was given as advance fee for a loan of Rs 25 crore from Asian Development Bank, it is alleged..

The state government had informed the court that Firoz had been booked under Section 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating) of Indian Penal Code. These offences can be compounded with the permission of the court as per the CrPC, the government had submitted.

After the high court's dismissal of his anticipatory bail plea, Firoz had surrendered before police on July 18.
