New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) parliamentary board will soon take a call on who will be the party's prime ministerial candidate for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, a party leader said Wednesday.
"The parliamentary board will soon meet and take a decision on the party's prime ministerial candidate. Yes, Modi is one of the tallest leader today and popular. We have yearning for him but allow the parliamentary board to take a call," Ravi Shankar Prasad told a news channel.
He also said: "Advani is our tallest leader. We have great regard for him."
BJP spokesperson Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said, "There is no confusion or contradiction in the party on who will be the prime ministerial candidate. At appropriate time, party president Rajnath Singh will announce it."
According to party sources, the BJP parliamentary board may meet Friday and make the announcement of the party's prime ministerial candidate for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
"Meeting of parliamentary board will take place in the coming days. It may take place Sep 13," a party leader said.
They said there was a broad opinion in favour of announcing Modi's name though there were some leaders who feel that a decision on projecting Modi should be taken after assembly polls in five states later this year.
Modi is the BJP campaign committee chief for the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
