Thiruvananthapuram: KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala on Thursday sought a comprehensive and truthful probe into the gold smuggling cases.

“It is a matter of concern that human trafficking and gold smuggling through the airports in the State are on the rise,” Chennithala told reporters.

Meanwhile, Government chief whip P.C. George has written to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy that the investigation into the gold smuggling cases should be handed over to the National Investigation Agency.

On reports that the accused had links with the Chief Minister’s office, Chief Minister Ommen Chandy Wednesday had rejected the fresh allegations saying that he could not reply to it on the basis of hearsay and media reports.

Last week, the customs at Kochi airport nabbed two women who had arrived from Dubai and were possessing 20 kg of gold valued at Rs.6 crore.

On questioning the two women, the authorities stumbled on more evidences and took into custody Fayas, the main accused in the case .

Fayas, when interrogated, blurted out the contacts he had with people in customs, police, film industry and those who matter, prompting a section of the TV media here to weave stories.
