Dubai: A 20-year-old Indian national in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) was burnt to death in his sleep after a fire broke out in his apartment.

The victim was a fashion designer by profession and hailed from Kasarogod district in Kerala.

The victim had reportedly returned to his flat at Frij Al Murrar in Deira area of Dubai after finishing night shift early Tuesday.

His roommates, who worked in the day shift, were out when the incident happened, Khaleej Times reported.

The cause of the fire is not known.

The police control room reportedly received an alert at around 3 a.m. that a fire had erupted on the fourth floor of the building.

Police broke open the door but were surprised to find a refrigerator behind the door. They found the man lying in the main hall with serious burns.
