Kochi: The police on Wednesday informed the High Court that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to probe the complaints of land grabbing against former gunman of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy Salim Raj.
The SIT will be headed by Superintendent of Police CBCID under the supervision of Additional DGP, Director General of Police K S Balasubramanian said in an affidavit filed in the court.
The affidavit was filed in the wake of adverse observations made by the court last week.
Justice Harun-Al Rashid had on October 1 asked the government whether the senior police officers were afraid of Salim Raj, a constable.
The court orally observed that 'we have never seen a DGP forward a complaint to Chief Minsiter's office. DGP and all police officers are afraid of this constable'.
The affidavit was filed on the progress of investigation on a petition filed by Areefa and Premchandran Nair with regard to the land grabbing cases.
The two complainants had approached the High Court seeking an investigation by a special team or the CBI into two land deals cases in which Salim Raj is allegedly involved.
They had also sought to implead the mobile service providers in the case, seeking to seize the phone records of Salim Raj.
The government had objected to this application and sought more time to file objections.
The case will be considered on October 18.
Salim Raj was suspended after his name figured in the solar panel scam.
Meanwhile, the court has been informed that a vigilance inquiry is going on in the matter.
