Achuthanandan to move court in solar case

New Delhi: Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan has decided to move Pathanamthitta Judicial First Class Magistrate court seeking a copy of the court statement of Industrialist R. Sreedharan Nair who had filed a cheating case against Saritha S. Nair of Team Solar.

The CPI-M veteran decided to move the court following advice from Supreme Court advocates. He will also file a plea seeking a copy of the remand report of the Saritha Nair, a key accused in the solar scam case.

In a statement made before the Judicial First Class Magistrate in Ranni, under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, on July 6, Sreedharan Nair had stated that he had met Chief Minister Oommen Chandy along with Saritha S. Nair at the Chief Minister’s Office.

He also alleged in this statement that the Chief Minister encouraged him to do business with Saritha.

The High Court, however, had on October 11 observed that the allegation of Sreedharan Nair need not be probed as the court found that it was not true.

Justice Harul-Ul-Rashid made the observation while dismissing a petition seeking a directive to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing solar cheating cases to seize the hard disks and server of the CCTV cameras installed in the secretariat and the CMO and verify the allegation against the Chief Minister.

The judge said the SIT should proceed with the investigation untrammelled by any of the findings and observation made by the court in this case.
