Thiruvananthapuram: As many as 22 sewing needles, found in the abdomen of an one-year-old child, have been removed through a surgery in Kollam district.
Badreenath, son of couple Balan and Dhanya, hailing from Manrothuruth, was admitted to a private hospital in the district recently with stomach ache and incessant vomiting.
During the check up, the presence of some metal objects was found in the stomach of the child, hospital sources said.
The needles were taken out through an hour-long surgery, carried out by a team of doctors led by Dr Biju, they said.
However, the family members said that they didn't know how the needles had found inside the child's abdomen. They also said nobody in the family knows stitching and there is no sewing machine at their house.
