New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday directed the Karnataka government to shift PDP leader Abdul Nasser Ma’dani, an accused in the July 2008 Bangalore blasts case, to hospital for treatment.

The apex court directed that Ma’dani be shifted to Agarval Eye Hospital for eye surgery immediately. The court also allowed Ma’dani’s wife Sufiya to accompany him.

The court has issued a notice to the Kerala government on a plea seeking that it be allowed to join the case as a plaintiff.

The court had earlier sought Karnataka government's response on the fresh bail plea of Ma’dani. However it sought more time to file the response. Ma’dani’s counsel claimed that his client had been diagnosed with 'diabetic retinopathy' (eye ailment) and if immediate treatment was not provided, he would lose his eyesight. The court then ordered that Ma’dani be shifted to hospital for treatments.

Madani was named in as an accused in the second supplementary charge-sheet filed by the police and was arrested in Kerala on August 17, 2010. He has been lodged in Parappana Agrahara jail since then. He is among a total of 31 persons chargesheeted in the July 2008 Bangalore blasts that killed a woman and left 20 others injured.
