Thiruvananthapuram: The state government has issued guidelines for the Malayalam Day and Classical Language Week celebrations.

A high-level committee chaired by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy decided to celebrate November 1 as Malayalam Day and from November 1 to 7 as Classical Language Week.

The committee has decided to conduct celebrations in connection with the event in all government departments, especially in those departments where Malayalam is the official language.

The state-level Malayalam Day celebrations will also witness the presentation of the Official Language Service Awards.

The government departments have been asked to conduct an official language meeting on the occasion in which the department heads will administer the official language pledge.

The pledge is as follows: "I am proud of the richness of Malayalam. I honour Malayalam language and Kerala Culture."

The Chief Secretary will administer the pledge at the state-level celebrations to be held at the Secretariat Durbar Hall on November 1.
