HC refuses to quash two cases against solar scam prime accused

Kochi: Kerala High Court Wednesday refused to quash two solar scam cases against prime accused Saritha S Nair and Biju Radhakrishnan.

Justice Harun Al Rashid, before whom the two separate petitions by Saritha and Radhakrishnan came up, said the solar scam was not a simple cheating case. There were allegations of involvement of ministers and political leaders, he said.

"Public wants to know what the truth is," the Judge said, refusing to quash the cases registered in the Ernakulam North Town Police station.

He adjourned the petitions to hear the government's stand.

The petitioners had sought quashing of the cases on the ground that they had settled the cases by making payments to the complainants.

The court asked them how they had raised the money while both were in jail.

Saritha's consul contended that this was a political and media motivated case.

Saritha and Radhakrishnan had allegedly floated a fraudulent company called 'Team solar' and had developed contacts with the Chief Minister's Office staff. They allegedly duped several people of crores of rupees by taking money from them promising to put up solar panels and making them business partners.

The CPI-M-led LDF had launched agitations demanding Chief Minister Oommen Chandy's resignation over the issue.
